Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the North American Montessori Center and is designed to be multi-faceted, giving children a variety of hands-on activities to explore and develop their skills. The five main focus areas are listed below, with a brief description of each. Please click on each one to learn more about how these are practically set up and implemented in our classroom.

  1. Practical Life - Children develop independence, concentration, and coordination through everyday life activities. They practice skills such as pouring, dressing, cleaning, and food preparation, which build confidence, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility.

  2. Sensorial - Hands-on materials help children refine their senses and cognitive skills. They explore shapes, colors, textures, sounds, and sizes, learning to classify and compare objects, which strengthens observation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

  3. Language - Children explore spoken and written language through hands-on activities. They develop phonetic awareness, letter recognition, and beginning writing skills using materials such as the sounds pouches, sandpaper letters, and movable alphabet. Storytelling, vocabulary building, and listening exercises also nurture communication and comprehension.

  4. Mathematics - Children learn math concepts concretely through Montessori materials. They explore counting, number recognition, sequencing, and basic operations using objects like the number rods, sandpaper numbers, and spindle boxes. Activities are designed to develop a strong sense of quantity, patterns, and early problem-solving skills.

  5. Culture and Science - Children discover the world around them through hands-on activities. They learn about continents, countries, landforms, animals and plants, basic science, and cultural traditions, developing curiosity, respect for diversity, and an understanding of their place in the world.
